There is still time to give your child a unique educational opportunity at Summit Classical School! Summit is a tuition-free classical education charter school in Clinton, South Carolina. Summit Classical School is a Public School

Summit Classical School is a public school, funded by the state of South Carolina. So, that means there are no tuition requirements. Also, because it has received its own charter, the school is more autonomous than a traditional public school. The staff is able to craft a unique curriculum and school culture. The school is still held accountable to state standards, but is independent in how it helps the students meet those standards.

With A Unique Curriculum

Part of what makes Summit unique is the curriculum style. The school utilizes the Core Knowledge Language Arts Curriculum. While teaching skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) also builds students’ knowledge and vocabulary in literature, history, geography, and science. The school also uses Eureka Math. This program also unique because it emphasizes understanding mathematical concepts through story. Students learn how to apply their math knowledge, not just memorize a discrete set of skills. They use the same models and problem-solving methods from grade to grade, so math concepts stay with them, year after year.

Classical Education

A classical education style has three phases. First, children begin with information acquisition, which is the focus of most of elementary school. As they mature, they learn the “why” behind their education, or the logic. Finally, around High School age, they learn the rhetoric phase. This is when they learn to form their own ideas and opinions. For more info about a classical education at Summit, click here.

In just a few years, the school has already seen improvement in student performance. In the 2020-2021 school year, students ranked first among local schools in English and Language Arts and third in Math.
